The eighth hole at Ozarks National is one of many reasons golfers are flocking to Branson.

With all Branson Golf courses open and the summer solstice on the horizon, the destination is in full swing, including the state amateur at Ozarks National and appealing packages at many of the 10 diverse yet complementary playing venues.

Men’s State Amateur Championship

The event will be played June 22-28 at Ozarks National, the astounding Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design that garnered “2019 Best New Public Course in the US” distinction from Golf Digest when it opened last year. Open to spectators, it features the largest field ever in a Missouri Golf Association competition (172 players). Stroke playing qualifying begins on June 23-24, with match play rounds on Thursday through Sunday (when the final two players compete over 36 holes for the title).

J.P. Morris (son of Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge Founder Johnny Morris) qualified and is competing in the event at his “home” course. Likewise, Joey Johnson, the assistant golf professional at Ozarks National, will compete in the championship. He is a two-time Missouri Amateur Champion (2013, 2014), and nearly won a third straight title in 2015 (at Tom Fazio designed Buffalo Ridge at Big Cedar). He fell in the finals to his college teammate and roommate, Mitch Mather, then of Missouri State.
